Kees goes the extra mile for sustainability
by Yokogawa Test&Measurement December 20, 2022When most people who care about sustainable travel want to attend an event 680 km from their home, they would most probably think of taking the train or maybe car sharing.
However, Kees Oosterhoff is not most people. When Yokogawa put on an event in Berlin this October with the theme of sustainability, Kees, manager of the sales and technical support team at Yokogawa, was challenged to get there in the most sustainable way possible.
Cycling under your own power certainly fitted the event’s goal, which gathered together colleagues from across the company to discuss how we support our customers as they aim to become more sustainable.
Setting off from his local office in Amersfoort, Netherlands, on September 29th and arriving in Berlin on October 3rd, Kees averaged around 140 kilometres a day. It seems like a daunting distance, but Kees is no stranger to long distance cycling, having completed several extended journeys in the past. Kees also travelled light, using only the barest essential to support his trip.
Although riding alone, Kees used an app that mapped his route and allowed his colleagues to keep track of his progress as he neared his destination.
On his ride, Kees appreciated the chance to travel slowly and experience the journey at the pace of our ancestors. “I enjoyed the long days alone in the saddle,” said Kees. “Traveling this way gives you a chance to really appreciate the landscapes and the changing architecture of the cities you are riding through, something you cannot do going by aeroplane, for example.”
Kees’ efforts showed the passion that Yokogawa’s staff have for sustainability and their willingness to go the extra mile, or kilometre, to highlight its vital importance.
