Bring your Power Conversion Technology to the next level with a Cutting-Edge Oscilloscope

by September 27, 2024

As an engineer who’s developing or testing inverters for transportation markets such automotive or rail, are you yearning for a better way to take high-precision, high-speed measurements of complex digital waveforms? While oscilloscopes are the common go-to solution, there are certain prerequisites that you should seek out to ensure the optimal investment.

Any oscilloscope worthy of scrutiny should offer high resolution and low-noise detection that allows you to perform time-efficient studies in minute detail. The old adage, time is money, resonates deeply when the test and measurement process slows your development program and, subsequently, extends time to market.

But the oscilloscope itself is only half the story. By adopting the optimal software to partner the hardware, it becomes possible to drive further efficiencies in your development and testing routines. The combination of Yokogawa’s new DLM3000HD high-definition oscilloscope and IS8002CDV (Classic Data Viewer) software with updated user interface (UI), means you can resign your challenges in measuring complex digital waveforms to the history books.

Our DLM3000HD originates from customer requests for a lightweight, compact oscilloscope with higher precision and rapid start-up speed; one that supports the ongoing requirement for more energy-efficient inverters and motors.

Building on our existing DLM3000 mixed-signal oscilloscope series (launched in 2018), the new DLM3000HD offers resolution some 16 times greater (12 bit) in the vertical axis to capture waveform overshoot and ringing. The result? You can make more accurate observations of subtle changes in high-speed target signals over an extended time period (even at high sample rates up to 2.5 GS/s), confirm signal waveforms, and detect signals causing unexpected anomalies.

You can also increase your efficiency. A long 1 Gpoint memory supports the development and evaluation of next-generation inverter devices by recording multiple channels simultaneously.

High noise immunity allows you to operate the DLM3000HD in the harsh environmental conditions that we know you often endure in your development and testing areas, meaning the touch panel is far less likely to malfunction. It is even possible to disable the touch panel and use only the buttons if absolutely necessary.

With its updated UI, our IS8002CDV software offers easy remote control without the need for any programming. You’ll encounter no learning curve thanks to emulation of the instrument on the PC, allowing operation as normal. Offline file analysis also allows your company to use the instrument for other applications.

Such tasks might include the development and evaluation of in-vehicle serial bus/network protocols, including CAN, CAN FD, and other in-vehicle standards. A major time-saver here is the pioneering auto set-up function of the DLM3000HD, a capability that’s also possible during post data acquisition analysis. This function automatically configures the optimal bit rate and threshold level, accelerating the delivery of secure, reliable measurement results.

Notably, our DLM3000HD is ideal for the development and analysis of silicon-carbide (SiC)/gallium-nitride (GaN) inverters. These next-generation power devices can switch on and off in a few nanoseconds. Oscilloscopes such as our DLM3000HD series, with bandwidths of 350 MHz or greater, easily capture fast rising and falling transient edges.

Ultimately, the combination of high-resolution, multi-channel, wide-bandwidth oscilloscope with high-capability software steps up to the challenge of performing high-precision parameter measurements and statistical analysis in demanding sectors such as transportation.
